Introducing: Barnes & Noble NOOK Color eBook by Barnes & Noble

We are proud to offer the brilliant Barnes & Noble NOOK Color eBook.

For this great price, the Barnes & Noble NOOK Color eBook comes widely recommended and is always a regular choice with lots of people. Barnes & Noble have provided some great touches and this results in good value for money.

The original Nook made use of a large E-Ink display on top of a color LCD panel. Although it was a very popular device, the split screen is not perfect for everyone. Enter Nook Color: This color is an alternative to Nook Touch, for those who prefer a few extra features of a tablet computer and a better platform for displaying images. But does it stand up to its competition?

Pros Of The Nook Color

Interface: Barnes & Noble have done well with the interface on all their devices Nook and Nook Color is no different. Although it does not use physical buttons, it has only one: A home button. This makes it easy to access the main menu when needed. Once you get there, you will find it easy to use without the need for a large manual.

7 inch color touch screen: The 7 inch screen on the Nook Color is better than you find on many other eBook readers. What this means is greater screen real estate makes it easier to get lost in a book - which is exactly what you want from an eBook reader device.

Apart from the size, touch screen performs very well. It's very responsive thanks to the technology used (the same technology used by Sony Reader and Kobo Touch Edition), and get to where you want to visit is fast and intuitive. A touchscreen is useful for an eBook reader - it makes it easy to mark memorable passages, choose a word to look up in the dictionary, or press the menu items without having to slowly scroll through the page.

The fact that there is an LCD backlit screen means you can read it in the darkness and see the images in all its glory. Many users are much happier with the full color screen than they were with the split panel of the original Nook reader, though it does not look great in the sunlight like e-Ink is.

Internet and Web Browser: The Nook Color comes with Wi-Fi as standard, meaning you can connect to the internet when you are around a Wi-Fi hotspot. This is great for buying books from Barnes & Noble Store from the device, but it is even more useful for those who want to connect to the Internet from a portable device. Because of the LCD screen, Web browser is better than what you find on the e-Ink Kindle, but Kindle Four not offer a great browsing experience.

Android Tablet Features: Android is the operating system found on the Nook Color: A favorite of the tablet computer world. What this means is that you get access to a wide range of functions, from the ability to surf the web, to play multimedia files, check email, streaming music and read documents   PDF files.

Although you can not access all the Android Market App Store, Barnes & Noble, including his own shop with a variety of programs available for download. Even if you do not have thousands of apps, there's still plenty of features here that make Nook Color an excellent value tablet computer.

Memory: 8 GB of memory is not massive for a tablet PC, but it is bigger than what you find on most competitors to this device. This means you can store a large number of books, but it will fill up a little faster if you use it for movies and lots of music files. The good news is that, unlike many of the tablets iPad 2, not the Nook Color a memory card slot, so you can expand the storage capacity if you need in the future.

Disadvantages of Nook Color

Weight: The Nook Color weighs more than Nook Touch and the Kindle, which makes it slightly less comfortable to hold. However, the size and weight still suit most users, and it is a lot lighter than tablets like the iPad 2.

Glare: The good news is that Barnes & Noble has added an extra layer on the screen on the Nook Color to prevent the issue of glare in bright light. The bad news is that no technology can ever completely get rid of glare on an LCD eBook reader. This means that it is not pleasant to read in sunlight, unlike Nook Touch.

Price: Because Nook Color is a cross between a tablet and an eBook reader, it makes sense that it will cost more than e-Ink Nook Touch and other eBook readers. Coming in at about $ 250, it is certainly a greater cost than the cheapest $ 79 Kindle and the Kindle $ 199 Fire. That said, it still offers far more features than an E-Ink reader (mentioned in this review), and costs far less than a full-blown tablet PC.

Battery: Another problem with the LCD screen on the Nook Color is that battery life is greatly reduced. Compared with the two-month battery life of Nook Touch and other readers, eight hours on the Nook Color really nothing. You must be willing to charge the device frequently if you choose a tablet-eReader. Eight hours is about average for such a device.

The Nook Color Is worth buying?

The Barnes & Noble Nook Color has really taken their original Nook to the next level. Still an excellent quality e-book reader, it comes with the features you may have loved about the original Nook: An excellent bookshop, books in the standard ePub format, and good features reading.

But it also crosses into the world of tablet computers with its many programs available and email functions. Yes, it costs much more than its rivals eReader, but for a tablet computer with this functionality is still extremely affordable. The question is, will they be able to compete with the even cheaper Amazon Kindle Fire? Only time will tell.
